How to Use | Simmered Beef 

Suggested Cuts

  • Beef shank / beef brisket / shin  About 600–800 g 

Ingredients

  • JHJ Chinese Simmering Seasoning Mix for Beef × 1 sachet

  • Water – enough to fully cover the meat

  • Soy sauce (optional) – 1–2 tablespoons

  • Spring onion, ginger, garlic (optional) – for extra flavour

 

Method

1. Blanch the beef
    Place the beef in a pot with cold water. Bring to the boil, then remove and rinse well to wash off any impurities.

2. Add the seasoning
    Return the beef to the pot and add enough water to fully cover the meat.
    Add 1 sachet of seasoning mix. If you like, add a little soy sauce, spring onion, and sliced ginger.

3. Slow simmer
    Bring to the boil, then turn the heat down low, cover, and gently simmer for 90–120 minutes, until the beef is tender and well seasoned.

4. Rest in the liquid (recommended)
    Turn off the heat and leave the beef soaking in the simmering liquid for 30–60 minutes for deeper flavour.

5. Slice & serve
    Slice and serve with steamed rice, noodles, or as part of a Chinese-style braised platter. 

 

Handy Tips 

  • Once cooled, the simmering liquid can be refrigerated and reused 1–2 times (bring to a full boil before reuse).

  • Also suitable for beef tendon, brisket, or mixed simmered dishes.
