Enjoy it as a snack — it has a unique flavor and a pleasantly chewy texture.
Best paired with tea for a fragrant, sweet-but-not-overpowering treat.

 

👍🏼2. Use in Sweet Soups / Stews
Common ingredients to pair with: red dates, goji berries, brown sugar, ginger, white fungus, etc.

Example: Longan and Red Date Tea (great for nourishing blood and boosting energy, especially for women)
Ingredients:

  • 10–15 pieces of wood-fired dried longan
  • 5–8 red dates
  • A handful of goji berries
  • 1000ml water

Instructions:

  • Lightly rinse the longan and red dates.
  • Add all ingredients into a pot with water, bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for 20–30 minutes.
  • Optional: add brown sugar to taste.

 

👍🏼3. Use in Chicken or Pork Rib Soup
Add a few pieces of longan during simmering to enhance the broth’s natural sweetness and aroma.

Example: Longan and Red Date Chicken Soup
Ingredients:

  • Chicken thighs
  • 10 longans
  • 6 red dates
  • Slices of ginger
  • A splash of rice wine

Instructions:

  • Place all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Skim off any foam, then simmer on low heat for about 40 minutes.
  • Season to taste and enjoy.

Steep 3–5 longans in hot water with red dates and goji berries for about 5 minutes.
Helps to relax the body and mind, and improve sleep quality.

Add longans to steamed rice cakes, longan sponge cakes, sticky rice cakes, mochi, and other traditional desserts to enhance their flavour.
